In 1968, CLEO was founded as a non-profit project of the ABA Fund for Justice and Education to expand opportunities for minority and low-income students to attend law school. The CLEODIVERSITYNETWORK.ORG is a good place to begin learning about CLEO. Joining the CLEO diverCITY network should be considered.
CLEO sponsors three academic-year prrograms (Below with CLEO in green) and four summer programs (Below with CLEOin purple). In this section, we shall discuss all seven programs.

2011 CLEO COLLEGE-SCHOLARS PRELAW SEMINARS Each of these one-day seminars allows the participant a choice of location and is designed especially for highly motivated undergraduate students who register as CLEO College Scholars. These seminars bring together Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors from a wide variety of undergraduate institutions to obtain vital information about what kind of skills and preparation are necessary to become competitive law school applicants. 2011ATTITUDE IS ESSENTIAL (AIE) DEADLINE. May 1, 2011 COMPENSATION. Free seminar, $250 Travel Stipend with Hotel accommodations and meals provided. OVERVIEW. Intensive three-day orientation for entering law students. TARGET AUDIENCE. Low-income, disadvantaged, or minority students who are in the short time period between being accepted to an ABA-accredited law school and attending this law school. PURPOSE OF THE SEMINARS. To ease the transition from undergraduate to professional school and motivate students to succeed. DESIGN OF THE WORKSHOPS. To familiarize the participants with the demands associated with the first year of law school and to acquaint them with resources available to help them meet those demands. The workshop sessions and accompanying handout materials cover such topics as legal analysis and writing, legal education financing, debt management, class preparation, the Socratic method, case briefing and so forth. CLEO'S SUMMER INSTITUTES (2)
2011 CLEO SOPHOMORE SUMMER INSTITUTE The institute is a three-week residential program available at no cost to the participants. The aim of the institute is to bring together students from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic and geographic backgrounds and provide them with the training necessary to successfully prepare and navigate the road to law school.
